Kegelen at KHG

We came together at KHG to do a very typical German sport which you should do while you are still in Germany: KEGELN. High chances you won't find this game elsewhere in the world. It looks like bowling, but the balls are smaller, have no holes to put your fingers in, the course has a funny shape and the are 9 pins instead of 10. There are no prefixed rules, so over time many different games have been invented, collected together in a map, and we started to play it.

We divided our selves in two groups (without checking skill yet), and started to compete. After many throws, most of us got a hang of it. It can become very addictive to try to throw the full 9 pins, which is nearly impossible.

Tivoli Ice Skating

We went ice-skating last Thursday at Tivoli and we had a great time! The bus to the Tivoli ice-halls takes off quite often and when we arrived, there was a long queue waiting for us. Meaning it would be crowded for us to skate fast :) For many hours we skated and of course we helped out our gang who stood on ice the first time.

Next time, board-games evening at KHG. Set this in your agenda!

Restaurant Paella

Our first event on 01.12.2008 at restaurant Paella was a great success! We enjoyed some typicial Spanish dished like tapas and afterwards we headed to Weihnachtsmarkt to warm ourselves up again with a Gluhwein. Jummy!

Next time, we go for ice skating! We'll keep you up to date on this blog.

Beginning of Informal DoC.NET

Hi international/German PhD's, expats and friends!

Five people sat down together and thought that Aachen needs a stronger international/German PhD community. An organisation that does:
  • Go out check new restaurants,
  • City trips to for example Maastricht and Cologne,
  • Sport activities like ice skating and
  • Cultural activities like visiting museums.
Although this starts out as the informal DoC.NET, it is not only limited to PhD's, but also their friends and expats and whoelse that is interested. We currently use the DoC.NET mailinglist (click to subscribe), this blog to publish our events and Facebook (click to see).
